I think the points you raise are fair ones, although the links in the piece were meant to point to Baraka&;s anti-Semitic poems and comments.
Although admittedly I do not have much respect for Baraka because of what I see as his twisted hatred for Jews, I do not advocate silencing him as you imply. My criticism is more aimed at the radio station which had him on as an &;expert commentator&; on Jackson. As Baraka is primarily a (talented) poet and playwright, I did not see him as a political commentator on Jackson. Based on your "Nation Time" comment, perhaps he is in a position to comment on Jesse Jackson politically.
But if the radio station was to invite Baraka as a commentator, instead of many others equally qualified as spokespeople, they should have mentioned the controversy around Baraka&;s anti-Semitic remarks, or at least the fact that he was dismissed as New Jersey Poet Laureate because of his repugnant comments. For example, if CNN or KCRW was doing a piece on Louisiana politics, would they choose David Duke as a commentator, and introduce him as an &;author and Louisiana political activist?&; Duke is both of those things, but he&;s also an avowed racist and probable member of the Klan or Nazis.
In fact, Duke is often given airtime (media love controversy and the ratings that ensue) but at least he is always identified as what he is.

Baraka has definitely said some anti-semetic things. And, I&;m glad you are there to question him. But do you know that the phrase which has become known as a Jesse Jackson standard was coined by Baraka? The concept of "Nation Time" came out of a poem by Baraka. So, his voice on the issue of Jesse Jackson is essential. These men have been in the same circles since the late 1960&;s. You may not like those folks but in reality it would be ridiculous not to have Baraka&;s opinion on something like this. I feel that your argument would be better served if you pointed the specifics of his anti-semetism. Then it wouldn&;t seem like what you are saying is that this old man Baraka should be silenced at all costs. What we need to do is make people more aware of the complexities that occur between blacks and jews. Silencing each other wont help! Silencing anyone is very 1940&;s.
